Marquee Lights is a display slab serif typeface that is inspired by vintage decorative marquee letters that are used to grab attention and make a statement. This typeface features transparent circular gaps with uniform spacing to mimic the lightbulbs in the physical marquee letters, some slight overshoot in the base of rounded letterforms and consistent ellipses for all circular letterforms.
Marquee Lights was completed as one of my major assessment pieces at Griffith University. Students were tasked to design a custom typeface in a single weight utilising Adobe Illustrator to create scaleable vector letterforms based on a clear design intention statement.
The Typeface Specimen poster that was created as part of my final submission with the 'Marquee Lights' font. This poster not
only shows the letterforms created and its unique characteristics, but it also summarises the design intent and the challenges
faced while finalising this font.
